Tim Kraus

 

Tim Kraus is an educator and media producer.  Since 1993 he has designed, coordinated and presented media arts residencies and professional development for teachers in more than five Ohio school districts, community centers, prisons, and the Cincinnati AFL-CIO Labor Council.  He was faculty for the 1996 Fitton Center for the Arts' Summer Arts Camp for Adults where he taught the media component.  He also served as adjunct faculty for the University of Rio Grande Masters in Education Program teaching Cross Curricular Media Production from 2004-2007.

Kraus earned a Bachelors Degree in History, Religion, and Philosophy from Manchester College, he did graduate study at Kansas State University and the University of California at Berkeley in Modern South Asian history, religion, politics and language, and he earned a Masters Degree in secondary social studies education from the University of Cincinnati. He has lived, studied, traveled, and worked in Latin America, Eastern Europe, Asia, and North America. Tim has produced documentaries for non-profit, community, and labor organizations; his production The Arts Makes Sense, about SPECTRA+ at Fairfield West, outlines the importance of arts integration in the elementary school setting.  He served as a member of the Commission on Media for the National Council for the Teachers of English (NCTE) from 1999-2005.

A teacher union activist, Tim held the presidency of the Cincinnati Federation of Teachers from 2007 to 2009.  Since 1997 he has taught social studies, media production, and educational technology in Cincinnati Public Schools (CPS).  He is currently a History teacher in the Hughes STEM High School—a teacher led collaborative effort involving Cincinnati Public Schools, the Cincinnati Federation of Teachers, the University of Cincinnati and several corporate partners that include Proctor and Gamble, General Electric, Toyota, and Duke Energy.
