BLACK SHEEP NOTES:
Dr. William Gillespie, Communication
Professor, Georgetown College: “The events are so rich cognitively that
processing the images, the language, the sounds, the connectedness of the
various elements occurs both during the performance and then, on other
levels, in the weeks and months that follow. I have noticed that, following
one of their shows, something will happen in my life that provides the
missing piece their performance was awaiting to achieve its ultimate impact.
I believe their art is designed to go home with the audience; to
accompany the lives of people who see the performance, and to be used as
a “clear-sight” device or a “truth-illuminating” viewer through which we
better understand our predicament, our history, and our relationships to
our institutions and to each other. Certainly one of the most important
features of their shows is the time they spend with their audiences following
each performance; a time which they use to further connect with the
people with whom they have shared the experience and as a source of reflection
and inspiration as they continue the process of new discovery and collaboration
for the next performance. I am confronted and assailed by the work of Black
Sheep Theatre.
