My Name is Saad, producer/director Sergei Linkov. A documentary portrait of Saad Ghosen. born in Beirut he studied in Paris and Boston and for almost twenty-five years has lived and worked in Cincinnati, Ohio. He is a scientist and recently retired, Chief Pathologist at the University of Cincinnati, educator, artist, activist, and benefactor who embarks on a journey to harness the healing energy of art to grow peace.
Saad, as an artist, works with a wide range of media: woodcuts, lithograph and installations. He is very skillful and precise with his hands, observing him work enfolds one with a sense of joy. He believes that activism is at the heart of art expression and that arts are potent instruments for social change. In the nineteenth century one very famous writer says "Beauty will save the World." It seems that "beauty' for him means not only art, but a general sense of universal harmony, including relations between people. Saad is striving to unite people, to give them an opportunity to express their ideas and feelings, to help them perceive themselves as creators, and he achieves success following this path.
Frost Flowers Naturalist, award winning filmmaker and organic farmer Chris Korrow, takes us on a journeyinto the fascinating phenomenon of “Frost Flowers.” These spectacular icy “blooms”occur for just a few short days a year, with magnificent displays only occurring every six years or so. Coming to Ground, a film and civic engagement program from Jean Donohue and Fred Johnson. At the center of the project are two feature length documentaries, COMING TO GROUND and THE NEW AGRARIANS, that explore the social movement for healthy and safe food systems, and the need for a long-term agricultural policy grounded in ecologically sound principles. They will look at the current agricultural crisis; at the way consumer food choices influence how food is grown and how those choices affect rural communities, farmers and the soil; and at the policies needed to create a sustainable future. These films give voice to farmers and activists who are meeting the challenges of re-envisioninga new, sustainable, earth-centered food system, who are ‘coming to ground’ in a global quest to create a new, sustainable food system. The Coming to Ground project will provide content and materials to aid advocacy as we move toward an ecologically sound farm policy reform in 2012. View a short video sample.
