Jack in the City

A Community Oral History and Performance

Jack in the City was a multi-media performance based on the oral histories of an urban Appalachian community. It was year long project of the Covington Community Center in which community residents were trained in the techniques of oral history gathering techniques with audio and video; creative writing based on personal oral history; drama and movement for the stage; and finally, a performance was written collectively by the participating artists and residents.

The Jack in the City community drama was performed at the Carnegie Theater and a number of schools and community centers throughout Northern Kentucky. This web site is an effort to document and tell the story of the making of Jack in the City as a community arts project.
