As Performed
By
Faye Massey and Scott Thrasher
I. An Actor and Actress enter and introduce themselves as
Jack & Molly
II. They argue as to who has the better story
III. After much debate, Molly allows Jack to begin his story
IV. Jack story is about how he became known as Jack the
Giant Killer
- Jack was fishing one day and was having very bad
luck. The fish in the river poked their heads out of the
water and laughed at Jack not being able to catch them. So
he skipped a rock and killed 7 in one blow.
- Jack returned to the town and the townsfolk were
complaining about the giant that was ravaging the town,
Jack tried to make his presence known by announcing that
he killed 7 in one blow. The townspeople took that to mean
7 GIANTS, and thus "hired" Jack to kill the giant.
- Jack was a little afraid on his way to the giant's
house but the told himself that this pa was famous for giant
killing and he could handle it just fine. When he reached the
giant's door, he knocked and announced to the giant that he
was going to run him out of town. He told the giant he
couldn't be playing baseball with someone's pumpkin patch
and their old cedar tree. And that stepping on someone's
barn wasn't the thing to do.
- The giant invited Jack to dinner. The giant realized
that he didn't have any water to cook with so Jack and the
giant went down to the stream to fetch water. The giant
brought two HUGE buckets for the water. Jack knew he
couldn't carry one, so he told the giant he was going to
move the stream up to the giant's house. The giant did not
like this idea and ended up carrying both buckets of water.
- The evening progressed and Jack continued to
tease and torture the giant.
They even played a game
of mumblypeg with Jack's knife and the giant's HUGE
knife. Towards the end of the evening, Jack kept looking
out the window. The giant was annoyed and asked Jack
what he was looking at. Jack said that he saw his Pa and
Pappa, the famous Giant Killer and his brother coming right
towards the giant's cabin. The giant begged Jack to hide
him from the killer. Jack told the giant to climb into a huge
barrel. Once the giant was inside, Jack pretended to tell his
Pa that there was no giant there, that the had gone to
another village. Then he rolled the barrel down the slope
and off the cliff.
- The giant wasn't dead, but the was a little dizzy.
He told Jack thank you for saving his life. Jack said that he
should get out of town because his pa wouldn't rest until the
giant was dead. So the giant high tailed it out of the village.
V. Jack starts to tell another story, but Molly stops him and
says just wait until her story.
