Oral Histories
In the gathering of the oral histories for Jack in the City, we found a number of common themes that kept rising to the top. These themes were then adopted into the structure, content and mood of the Community Performance. They were:
- Voices, the human spirit
- Some things unspoken should be spoken
- Re-Creating the home(place)
- Power in not speaking things
- Relationships
- Tension between positive and negative of city and country life
- Family History
- Family Structure and the changes with the generations
- The Street-extended Family or the neighbors
- Stubborn Mean Old Woman
